We are delighted to collaborate with Antonia Tamer, who will be joining us in Jordan Hall on Sunday for our performance of Verdi’s Requiem.
Soprano Antonia Tamer has become noted in recent seasons as a young artist of striking promise. Ms. Tamer enjoys a particularly strong relationship with Boston Lyric Opera, where she covered the title role of Tosca (2017) and Frasquita in Carmen (2016), in addition to creating Madge Docherty in the world premiere of The Nefarious, Immoral But Highly Profitable Enterprise of Mr. Burke & Mr. Hare. She rejoins the company for their 2019 production of The Rape of Lucretia, in which she will make her role debut as the Female Chorus.
In 2017, Ms. Tamer joined Portland Opera to make her role debut as Fiordiligi in Così fan tutte and to cover Mimì in La bohème. She returns to Portland Opera in 2019 to make further role debuts: Berta in Il barbiere di Siviglia and Arminda in Mozart’s early masterpiece La finta giardiniera. She has also appeared with the Natchez Music Festival in the title role of Madama Butterfly and with Opera San José as the Sandman in Hänsel und Gretel and Suor Dolcina in Suor Angelica.
Ms. Tamer has fulfilled young artist residencies with Boston Lyric Opera, Portland Opera, the Caramoor Festival, Chautauqua Opera, the American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Austria (AIMS) and Songfest.
On the vocal competition circuit, Ms. Tamer has earned recognition from the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions (2017 Northwest Region Third Place, 2017 Portland District Winner, 2016 New England Region Finalist), the Chautauqua Opera Award, Honorable Mention in Florida Grand Opera’s Young Patronesses of the Opera Competition, Third Place in the Five Towns Music Arts Foundation Competition, Finalist in the Metro West Opera Competition, and Second Place in the Barry Alexander International Vocal Competition.
A native of Frankfurt, Germany, Ms. Tamer earned her MM in Vocal Performance at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and her BM in Vocal Performance at Miami University.
