Metropolitan Chorale Announces Departure of Music Director Lisa Graham After 21 Seasons

Brookline, MA — April 18, 2025 — The Metropolitan Chorale announces that Dr. Lisa Graham, its Music Director of 21 years, will step down at the close of the 2024–2025 season. Her departure marks the culmination of more than two decades of visionary leadership and artistic excellence.

Since joining the Chorale in 2003, Dr. Graham has expanded the ensemble to over 100 members from across the Boston area and shaped its identity with innovative programming that blends classical masterworks with contemporary, American, and lesser-known repertoire. Her tenure has included memorable collaborations with leading soloists, instrumentalists, and composers, significantly broadening the Chorale’s reach and reputation.

Beyond the Chorale, Dr. Graham serves as the Evelyn Barry Director of Choral Programs at Wellesley College. She has been a frequent conductor with the Handel + Haydn Society, toured with and served as cover conductor for the Boston Pops, and prepared ensembles for the Boston Symphony Orchestra. She is a founding member and former President of the National Collegiate Choral Conductor’s Organization, and was honored as a Life Member for her service in 2019. She has served on the board of the Eastern Division American Choral Directors Association, and is currently President of the Massachusetts chapter. In 2021, she received the American Prize Dale Warland Award in Choral Conducting.

“Lisa’s impact on our organization is profound,” said Kristen McIntire, President of the Board of Directors. “Her artistic vision, warmth, and dedication have shaped who we are today. We are deeply grateful for her leadership and wish her the very best in what comes next.”

The Chorale will celebrate Dr. Graham’s legacy at their April concert: “April Fools, Music & Humor” presented at the Strand Theater in Dorchester on Saturday April 26th, 7:30pm. More information and tickets can be found at www.metropolitanchorale.org.

The Metropolitan Chorale will be launching a search for its next Music Director this spring. A full job posting and application details will be available on their website beginning April 30.
